The description of slither.io
This is a mobile version of a good old Snake game - one of the first video games ever played on Tetris. Now it’s in 3D, brighter, cooler and better but still the same and not exciting enough. You need to create your own snake along with other players online and see whose is bigger. Let’s see how much time you can survive for!
Storyline and Controls 2/10
There’s no special storyline going on. The point of this game is the same as it was in the old version - to create as long snake as possible by eating special colorful balls. You can at first choose the color of your snake and the type of controlling - it could be by slide, arrow or with a round joystick on your phone’s screen. The balls, a.k.a. Snake’s food, are scattered all across the screen. You can eat balls of any color and one by one your snake becomes longer and longer. But if you do things the wrong way - it can become smaller than in the beginning, so you have to be careful. For “longitude” you get points. This game can be played either with AI or online with real players. So you can see the chat on the right part of the screen, but it took me a minute to figure out how to use it. Be careful of other players’ snakes - if they’re bigger than yours you’ll get destroyed if you hit them. And once you were destroyed you can come back to the game and start over. There’s no lives or extra health available, so it makes this a game of one chance only. Who likes that?
Graphics and Sound 2/10
Snakes in this game don’t look admirable. They’re created of the easiest ball-figures which you can make in 3D Max software. They’re with googly eyes, kind of cute but still, they don’t make you feel as if they’re your pets of some kind. There’s no choice of the scenes in the game - always the same black-ish background. The balls you eat are glowy and of different colors. By the way, I couldn’t figure out if there’s any difference between them. I thought that maybe if you eat only the same color as your snake, it’ll grow faster - not the case. But I saw some other players’ snakes which are more interesting looking. They can glow, and they have something like an aura around them.
There’s no special sounds in Slither.io which could add to the experience. The music and effects that this game has aren’t catchy and easily forgettable. I personally prefer to switch all the sounds off.
I don’t think that I’ll come back to that game. It would be better if it has more graphics effects. There also was no bonuses or achievement trophies, so I didn’t feel like I need to accomplish something, there’s no motivation to continue playing. The controls were kind of difficult - I felt that my snake didn’t move easily, it often missed the balls that I was aiming for with all three different types of movements. But Slither.io didn’t have any bugs or glitches still during the game. It uploaded and started the game pretty quickly, so there’s no negativity in the game’s performance. But all in all, you will forget about this game very quickly and will go for anything else.10 Feb 2019
